Goal: $20 million
The world desperately needs more well-trained health professionals, and Rush graduates are in great demand. But for many talented young men and women who would like to consider a career in medicine or health care, finances are a significant obstacle. With more funds available for scholarships, we will be able to open Rush University’s doors to many more exceptional young people.
Medical students. Despite the growing need to care for an aging population, far too few young men and women nationwide are applying to medical schools. Where will tomorrow’s exceptional doctors come from? Through the campaign, we will increase our scholarship endowment to continue to attract talented future physicians, to free them from heavy debt loads at graduation, and to give them the opportunity to choose any practice area, including those where the needs are great but the financial rewards are modest.
Nursing and allied health students. By 2012, the U.S. will need more than a million new nurses and huge numbers of laboratory technologists, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals. By supporting scholarships, the campaign will make it possible for many more students, including those with family responsibilities or who are embarking on second careers, to become the best caregivers possible.
